Tuberous begonia and more
« on: May 31, 2008, 08:32:40 AM »
The tuberous begonias thrive in the baskets in the dappled sun and bloom constantly
from early spring through late fall.

I have always loved begonias!  o(:-)

Have you ever tried planting them out in the garden?

The head guy planted the yellow flag iris in a flower bed and it's doing well.

Cliff bough 4 rose plants this year, two are called Knock-out roses. He planted them in pots so that he could move
them around following the sun...hee is one at the end of the dog leg. They are suppose to be excellent
bloomers from early spring to late fall, we'll see... {:-P;;

The knock out roses have become the standard landscape hedge around here. :)
They are pest resistant, drought resistant, fungus resistant... and bloom constantly in full sun.

They have a new double petalled variety too! But only in red. The white and the pink haven't been hybridized for a fuller bloom - yet!

OMG!  What a great looking yard!  Nice big fish, too.  Oh, and I see you have a blue ceramic fish, too.

Sunbeam, We don't plant them in the garden cause they are delicate and the dogs and squirrels squish them!
Gland you'll enjoying the photos.  :)
Julles, that's a wood fish, (if you referring to the hanging one) I do have
a ceramic fish in my dining room that is big and adorable. I post a photo of it tomorrow.
I just took this with my new wide angle camera, that has a 18x optical zoom..I bought it in the late fall
and really don't use it much cause I like my old one better.
Here's another tuberous begonia shot..they will get bigger and fuller, we only have them in for two weeks.

They sure fit my instant gratification personality.  ::)

Joann,

Those begonias are beautiful.  I have never had much luck with them, but I am in mostly sun, so no good place for them.

What is the plant growing in the bird bath?  I have thought about doing that with mine since the birds use the stream instead of the bird bath.  Did you drill drainage holes?

I think Terminator's fins grew since last summer!!!

Always enjoy your pics,
Karen

Hi karen, the plant in the bird bath is a ground cover, and it comes back each year. When we first
planted it --we had a variety of stuff in the bird bath, eventually this ground cover took over the whole bird bath.
I got the idea from Joyce to plant the bird bath...Yes, there are holes drilled in the bottom.

There is another birdbath that the head guy just moved up closer to the viewing deck. It is pictured in one of
the photos here...(It has a garden angel pump in it.)
I enjoy watching the cat birds, they love to use the birdbath.

I just love your pond, Joann.  Gorgeous!

I have a pot of tuberous begonias that has done amazingly well so far.  But we are going into the real hot and humid days now.  I keep waiting for it to melt.

Thanks everyone  :)
Ruthie. the foliage will brown up in the hot sun, they like partial shade.
Maybe you can pot them up and get them in a shaded location.
They are growing like mad in the pots. Everyday they are bigger.
We only have one plant in each pot.

I am trying to talk the head groundskeeper into weeding out a lot
of the yellow flag iris and the blooms go. I want to be able to see all
the stuff that he had planted in back of the yellow flag Iris.
Now that we know they grow so nicely planted in the garden,
maybe I can talk him into aggressively thinning them out.
Joann
