My Grass; what's wrong
« on: June 25, 2008, 11:00:46 AM »

Every spring my backyard grass begins looking very promising, but as time goes on it begins to turn yellow & brown at the base and then remains sparse.  I imagine it's a nutrient problem.  Can anyone tell by looking at the picture?

Well, phooey; no picture.  It's been a while since I was here.  I'll go back to the tutorial.   :(

No photo. Generally, a grass that dies from the root up has root problems.
Several causes - bugs (grubs), or fungus are the two that plague us the most here in South Texas.
The solution to both is beer and soap. No kidding!
Mix beer and soap - not too much soap, and spray on the brown spots.

I was going to say grubs too. In fact my grass is full of the stinking things. This weekend, I'm gonna put down a chemical to kill them.
My neighbor has a mole now. He just came over and borrowed my mole trap tonight. They eat GRUBS {nono}
Get rid of the grubs, and no moles.

Well, Jatfla,
Because your'e in florida I can't tell you what that is, but I'll tell ya one thing,---it ain't grass.
If you want grass, till it up and plant grass.
I have very little grass, but the little grass that I do have, I'd like it to look GOOD, (and green)
I went to ACE after work today to get some grub X, but I'm not paying $25 for it. I have to go to Baraboo when I'm done fishing tomorrow am, so I'll go to menards and get some, and kill them grubs.

Yes, it's St. Augustine Blue grass and recommended for our hot summers and it's suppose to grow in shade, though my backyard has only partial shade.  As I said it starts out so well in the spring and as the heat and rains begin, it begins to go sparse and look like this.

I had some lime in the shed so I threw it out.  Can't hurt  Thanks all.

My pond is looking good though.   :victory:
