Deep pond lily "training" questions...

Does anyone here have deeper ponds? and if so, do all of your lilies grow just fine? Or do you need to "train" them, in other words, over time, slowly increase the depth of the pot. My new pond is 5' deep, two of my lilies from last year are doing just fine with the depth, however I am concerned with the new plants that I just received and planted, right now I have them suspended at about a 2 foot depth, and am planning on increasing the depth over the next few months, is this correct? Or should I just place them all on the bottom and let them grow to the surface? Does it make a difference in what type of lilies they are? The new ones that I have are the following:

Red Flare
Castalflora
Nymphaea Odorata
Nymphaea Brazos white

Lily pons
Mayla

Greg I live in Missouri and I have many tropical lilies. I do not have deep watergardens. I made them shallow for tropical water lilies. Tropical lilies like the heat. And it can get 100*F here in the summer. So I cannot tell you about putting tropical water lilies in deep water. Maybe someone else can. But if it was up to me I would raise them up to the top with maybe only 12 inches over the pot. Hope someone else can help you with the deep water question.

From my little experience (I only buy one a year) with tropicals (annuals for me.....I know Vickie, I promise I'll do better this year and not toss them out).....mine ONLY flower if they are in shallow water and crown above dirt.

But my hardies, don't care what I do to them.  They even grow in the deeper parts of pond.  I'm going to put a couple out in our mud pond which is about 5 feet. I don't think they will have any problems. Maybe slower starting, but will grow just fine, especially in my clay mud bottom.

But saying that, my mayla and lilypons are not my most vigerous growers.  I so I have them closer to surface of water than my other hardies....for warmth.
