A Toad is a Toad?
« on: July 25, 2008, 04:09:26 PM »
So I have lots of toads in my back yard.  They seem to be the "Southern Toad" type, but I do see different "other" types too, unless the "Southern Toad" also comes in different colors of tan, brown and spotted.  So my question is does it matter when they mate, ie will a southern toad only mate with a southern toad?  I have two seperate batches of toad eggs that were laid about a month apart, and all the toadpoles look the same (I think).  Just wanted to know what they might be.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

There is not the racial distinction in toads that we fear as humans.  lol
Hope for frog eggs instead of toad eggs  - that is a valid distinction (poisonous vs. not poisonous).

Here we have the ENDANGERED Houston toad - Buafolis houstonensis - but I'm not convinced that they do that
"dating out of species" thing.

They will have their own preferences - why would you second guess them?

I think those lower species mate with only their own kind.

Although my box turtles don't mind so much with whom they mix it up.   ;)
