Around the pond this morning
« on: July 29, 2008, 09:32:21 AM »
I took my cat Pert out for a walk around the pond this morning.  She is nineteen years old this month!  She doesn't go out very often because she is afraid of everything.  When we go out she usually stays on the deck and I have to put the other two cats and the dog in the garage.  She was pretty adventurous this morning.  She is now curled up in the chair beside me snoozing. o(:-)

Also, a second day pic of my lotus.  I only had three blooms this year and we were gone on vacation for the first two.  Some of you may remember that I collect outhouses.  The one we placed in our yard last spring is peeking out through the woods.  It is full of my pond supplies.

It is supposed to get really hot and humid today, so I got out early and did my watering and deadheading.

Pertty Pert doesn't look her age.  Very pretty!

You collect outhouses?!  Like the kind with the crescent moons on the doors?!  :D

Lucky you!  Gorgeous lotus flower!

I remember your pond and yard from the past and all I can say is that it is absolutely gorgeous. o(:-)
A labor of love that has paid off big time. Thanks for the pics.

Yep Annette, real outhouses, kinda odd, huh?  I have six altogether, but only one in my backyard.  None of them have crescent moons. ;D  We thought about painting a silhouette of one on this one, but decided that wouldn't be authentic.

Wish you lived closer Alfonso, you'd sure be welcome!

I absolutely  o(:-) LOVE  o(:-) that first pic.  The rest are great too, must be the kitty and the flowers all around.  Your yard is beautiful, so healthy and lush.

wow, what a gorgeous yard!

Hey Karen, I just finished reading an article in Midwest Living magazine about a couple in Wisconson who have four outhouses, a corncrib, and an old granary, on their 29 acre farm, which is actually all gardens, judging from the photo shoot.  Really pretty.  It's the current issue - maybe you can find it.  Most of their outhouses were given to them, free, by people who didn't want them, but didn't want to see them destroyed.

Thanks Julles for the info, I'll look for that.
Two of ours were given to us, they are the nicest ones, WPA toilets, built during the Great Depression.
I may be getting one that is built from tile.  It's just down the road from us.  It would be very difficult to move.  Years ago there were a lot of clay factories around here that made Arketek Tile, one of them was just a few blocks from our house.  When I was a kid, everyones dad worked at the factories. It would be neat to have an Arketek outhouse. ;)
We have a bathroom that is decorated in an outhouse theme.
