HUGE pads! Caliente is at it again :-)
« on: July 28, 2008, 07:43:12 AM »
Caliente is growing huge pads again.  I can always count on this beauty producing very cool looking pads about the size of a serving platter plus big blooms.  I haven't even feed it that much fertilizer nor is it in a big pot, just a nursery 1 gallon size.  It makes me wonder how big it would really get if given more room to grow.  Compare it's pads to the smaller adult sized pads next to it.  Avalanche is blooming right next to it, Midnight has it's bloom closed, & the partially open pink blooms in the back are Ostara.

Kat, maybe next year we'll see how big it'll get free root in a mud pond.
(we'll work out a trade!)

That sure is a beautiful sight!  I love the variegated colors on the pads.  I also like the fringed pads from ?, Ostara or Avalanche?

Joyce--give me a holler next spring to remind me you want Caliente.  It loves the heat, so it gets to be blooming size later than the early bird tropicals.

Not sure which "fringed" pads you are referring too.  The super dark varigated is Manassas.  Craig works hard at hybridizing his tropicals to get varigated pads, so it certainly adds lots of color to the ponds.
