The last of my stargazer lilies to enjoy after a long July!  Love the bold colors and the orangypowder puffs  ;)

They are so beautiful. I love them. I will have to put them on my "wish list" for next year. I am assuming these are Day lilies. Am I right?

I love ALL Oriental Hybrid Lilies. They all smell so good and there are so many subtle differences in their scent. I've got white, yellow, pink and 'Stargazer' blooming now.

LeeAnne is right!  This is an Oriental hybrid lily.  O0  I had this plant for over 5 years and it keeps coming back strong.  Must be nice to have all those colors growing and blooming around the same time.  It seems in my weather I get one color at a time.

I bought some variety color hybrid bulbs last spring from Costco for a discounted price but they were probably on their last leg as the plants were very weak.  Hopefully they will store enough energy to make a better show next year.

They don't look very impressive since I only planted a bulb or two of each for economy reasons. But they sure do smell good.

I planted a whole mess of these lilies in the garden but they still bloom one stalk at a time...why that happens?  I don't know.

Beautiful lilies, Annette. Mine are blooming too. They are just under our bedroom window on the second floor and they smell so nice in the evening.

All my terrestrial lilies are history now.  Just need to keep the remains happy until next year!

Your comments Maryvonne bring memories of the scent back to me.  MMMmmmm......

Thanks!  8)

Stargazer Lillies are my favorite flower.  You have to watch out for those powdery puffs though...they stain your clothes pretty bad.  I bought a 5 gallon size of them last year but they failed to come back after the winter.  Of course I have a problem with squirrels constantly digging up my tubers and bulbs to eat them.  They also pick my hibiscus flowers and leaves to munch on, and the bottlebrush flowers to drink the nector off of.  They sure are pesky critters.  Hopefully they will not attack water plants.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Annette,

Can you tell me when to look for the Stargazer bulbs in the store?  I think I will try it again next year.  I have tried planting them in the shade but they didn't take, probably didn't water them enough.  Then I tried to plant them in full sun but the flowers burnt in the heat.  So, I'm thinking they do better in partial shade and I have to be better about the watering as they are not quite maintenance free like some of my other plants.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

You can find plump bulbs in early spring or late winter in any good nursery.  Sunny areas preferable (I have some shade during the hottest times of the day) and do not over water or let the soil stay too wet.  I water my gardens once a day in warm weather.

I think you're in Florida, right?  I'm not sure of your weather but I leave my bulbs in the ground year round and they do they prefer cooler winter weather.  Definitely not real cold here but they come back every year, and bigger too.

Good luck!  O0
