That is so cute...I have 5 tubs just setting around...only one is planted with a variety, the rest have one lily each.

I'm going to copy your idea!!  If you don't mind...... :P  I've been wanting to put a barrel liner in the ground forever but couldn't think of what to do.  Thanks for the great pictures!  O0

Go for it, have fun and be creative. I started out wanting just a barrel liner on patio but thought it would be way better to sink it.

I wanted to mention that we already had the arbor and swing up but all the rest we did in one weekend, pretty much in one day.
TIP: We planted our plants and then layed cardboard or black plastic down right on top of the surrounding  grass and around the plants and then mulched. I did a spray of roundup around the perimeter afterwards for easier mowing.

Another tip. I wanted to plant some wildflower seeds but couldn't in just the mulch so I got big bags of potting soil, layed them lining the edges of the bed, cut the tops out of the bags and sowed my seeds in them, then mulched around the sides to cover the plastic that was showing.  Requires daily watering but it worked.

Well I can't believe I thought of something you guys haven't. LOL. I require pictures of yours when done, though.
That is the great thing about this place...learning from others and getting ideas for your own yard.
My husband just finished our above ground water pond tank that I saw directions here for. Except ours didn't quite go as smoothly. Mainly lack of proper power tools. Makes a big difference. Check out my post on it, I'll add photos and details.

"How many ponds do you have?"
Two...the 1/2 barrel liner and now the above ground tank. I do have a patio fountain tub with hyacinth in it too, and a fake rock waterfall fountain/no plants.
