Pondsai, Pondlets.. Joyce, LeeAnne and others
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:20:51 PM »
At our new place there is a small preform which is maybe 40-50 gallons.
It's located in an area which the old owners called the bird sanctuary and I'm going to be working in that area this weekend to get things weeded, thinned out and freshened up.

It's only 10-12" deep and I'm thinking of putting a mini. waterlily in it.   I'm wondering about just putting some clay in the bottom and planting a lily in it, no pot.    Curious how deep your pondsai/pondlets are?
LeeAnne, I'm THINKING that your one pond is pondsai/pondlet size?

Thanks Joyce, I thought it wasn't the typical 18" or so like some of the bigger preforms.
I'm thinking that I could grow a miniature in it and cover over the winter so it doesn't freeze?

Here's a couple of pix from June, it's been let go somewhat and I am just getting around to working on it because there's been more important things so far to work on.

Bonnie that setting is wonderful.

My smallest liner pond is about 18" deep in the shallow end created for Helvola and 22" deep in the deeper end. I did put clay soil on top of the liner and plant right into it. I did this with the bigger one too. Perry's Baby Red, Hermine and Charlie's Choice are in the bigger one. The biggest one does not have the dirt on the bottom yet. DH doesn't want to disturb the tadpoles....

Sadly, the raccoons have ripped Helvola, Joanne Pring and Chrysantha to shreds. This pond is so shallow that the coons climb right in. They only reach in the others.....

I do have a small Helvola for you, Bonnie, I potted up the pieces of the rhizome that they shredded. I've got one for me too, waiting for DH to finish a cover.

Joyce your pondsai is gorgeous!  Beautiful photo!  Love the arrangement of plants and the small island.  Fog is cool.

Bonnie, love all the birdhouses and garden around your pondsai.  How deep is your pondsai?  Oh the envy for your space!!

Thanks LeeAnne, we really love the place!

Yes this pond has alot of tadpoles which look like bullfrog tad's so I'm gonna put them in the mud pond even though we have bunches of frogs already.

I'm gonna go ahead and put some clay soil in the bottom and put in a waterlily, I can always cover with a piece of plywood and straw in the winter to prevent freezing.. hopefully.

No hurry whatsoever on the Helvola. Thanks! :)

Thanks Bonnie, Lorraine and Annette...found these better pix of the pondsai.
Of course, since we moved into  out new house this June, the pondsai has to be rebuilt.

Still loving your pondsai, Joyce!  What are the willowy leafed plants flanking the caladium leaves?  You're giving me ideas I don't have time to carry out....but I can still dream, can't I?
