Backyard flowrers
« on: July 22, 2008, 08:45:32 AM »
Here are a few photos that I took yesterday in my backyard after the thunderstorm we had. The fly and the mantis were so patient sitting on their flowers to allow me to take the photos. I wish the Bumble Bee that is leaving the Monarda was in focusl

Beautiful flowers.  I actually missed the mantis, read the other post and had to go back.  Duh, I don't know how I over looked him.

Because he was so still Kim.... lol    I didn't realize there were different "types" of mantis, but I've seem tiny, tiny ones which come out of the cocoon by the hundreds.  Each week they get a little bigger until they are long and can fly around.  They are funny trying to get away from my prying eyes--they tilt their heads and leap through the bushes with their arms up by their faces lol

Oh yeah, and BEAUTIFUL PICS!! o(:-)

Thank you all very much. I didn't know there were different types of mantis' either. I have dragonflies come to my pond occasionally also, but they don't sit still long enough for me to take pictures of them. They just fly around and dip their tails in the water . Can somebody please give me more details on this type of behavior
