I am in baton rouge louisiana which is 80 miles from new orleans and 1.5 hrs from biloxi and it looks like we are going to get hit really hard

:'( ....i am preparing best i can but i have 8 cats and a dog and a son and we r staying in my mobile home until it gets bad then we are going to my neighbors in a house (all of us) but pray for us all and hope we will be on here when its all over.....thanks lorraine

It could hit at a Category 5. Pay attention to sea level. Get as high as you can.
A mobile home will NOT survive that kind of wind.

Prayers help - but preparation helps more.

we are going to get hot also.i am going to pump out the pond as low as i can and still run everything and hope the fish make it.

DONT pump the pond down. They will hunker on the bottom when the barometric pressure drops - and they need the extra water for oxygen.

A Cat 5 is a bad storm to weather. If you have ANY disabilities, physical, whatever, you should leave.
And definately get OUT of the mobile home.

Staci, haven't you had your pond damaged before from a bad storm?

And shouldn't you leave as much water as possible just in case the power goes out and you can't aeriate?

If any way possible, please go to a safe area for a few days. Do not try and ride out the storm. This one could be really bad, and you may not be able to leave later. Above everything else, keep your self and your families safe. Our prayers are with you.

Hey, I am in Shreveport.... Lots of people are traveling north..... please, try and get as far north as you can ... there are a number of shelters were you can stay free and they are setting up shelters to house peoples pets also... they may not be able to take all of your animals but they will take some and house them ... come, come

You,your family,friends, and anybody else that is in the area where the hurricane is suppose to make landfall are in my deepest thoughts and prayers. I can't believe that your area could be hit by such a big hurricane in so few years .

everyone should go up north like arkansas or maybe misourri
smallfish cool i i didnt know you live in shreverport, i have been there lots of times and yeah everyone go to upper grounds like the oaks in arkansas, or i dont know maybe san antonio tx or closer to the north or closer west

I agree Lorraine and anyone else in southern LA, get out now! This is one huge motha of a storm and no matter where it hits the surge will be unbelievable. Even the normally reserved weather guru Dr Jeff Masters was emotional yesterday and today in telling people in southern Louisiana to leave now! He said that wherever this storm comes ashore it will push so much water up the lowlands of LA that flooding is inevitable and levee breaks are probable. As he put it, NOLA is in the bottom of a bowl, below sea level, and Mother Nature really wants to fill that bowl with water from the Gulf of Mexico.

I hope all of you are safe and that you get to high ground with your loved ones and animals. Nothing else matters, it's just stuff.

Lorraine, Get your four legged animals and your son and get in your car and head north. Take all your canned goods and some water if you have any bottled. If not dump out your milk and fill the jugs. I can feel your pain, but you must not be on this site, you must prepare and react. Please simply forget about us for a few days and take care of yourself. We will be here waiting. We will be praying for you. Do us all the favor of helping yourself while you can. I don't mean to spark fear, I simply know from being in Florida, this is a storm to fear. I'm in east Texas and are housing lots of people and animals. I'm offering my pasture for horses and am spending all my time at the expo center taking in dogs, cats, birds, lizards and every other animal you can think of! We will get tropical storm rain and winds. Our electricity was out for 2 week during Rita, but still nothing like what you will be getting.
