A weed?!?  Don't worry Jerry, here in Florida our entire lawn is a "weed".  Up north you would call what we call "grass" down here as "crab grass".  At least that is what the look and texture is like compared to grass up north.  Our grass (St. Augustine) is very scratchy and coarse, not at all nice to walk on compared to grass up north.

My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

LeeAnne, if I could trade my St. Augustine grass for your lawn grass I would in a heartbeat  ;)
But, I can't seem to get any other type of grass to grow for very long down here in this climate..... ::)

Our Bermuda is very thin because of the shade from our big oak tree, so we are having to grow St. Augustine.  I would prefer Bermuda because it doesn't grow as tall so quickly.

I've got a "Mother" from Lawanna, too, it is doing great.  Lots of babies around it already.

Many in So Cal opt for St Augustine. Hardy and tough!
Seems I read that Florida was concerned about the water needs of St Augustine.

I hate Bermuda, itchy and gets into the flowerbeds so fast. Most of Phoenix has it though it was rare to have St. Augustine. My best friend's mother did have St. Augustine and we just loved it. We played on it all the time when we were kids.

Mine bloomed in the house last winter.

 {:-P;;I think all a person would have to do is bring in a couple of leaves with little sprouts on them and place on a pan of sand for the winter.  Instant plants next spring.

That's a neat plant.  Are those flower buds around each leaf?  I may just be seeing things  :D

They aren't flower buds, they are baby plants.  Eventually they will develop little rootlets, fall off and there you have a bunch of plants.  Now you see how it got its name.  They do flower but those aren't flowers.

I think so.  Actually I've always known it as "Mother of Thousands".  Never heard "Mother of Millions".  Here's what Wikipedia says

Quote
Kalanchoe daigremontiana syn. Bryophyllum daigremontianum also called Devil's Backbone, Alligator Plant, Mexican Hat Plant or Mother of Thousands is a succulent plant native to Madagascar. This plant is distinguished by its ability to propagate via vegetative propagation.

I've grown a similar plant we called "Donkey's Ears" (Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri).  The leaves are larger and it grows a single pup at the tip of the leaves.  Here's a link to a picture: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/49390/ .

Back in the old days of college I had that plant but never knew the name.  That was the beginning of my gardening urges.  It had many baby plants, like Sonny described, which made me feel like I was doing something right.  ;)

Thanks for the memories.... {:-P;;
