Transfomation..Caterpiller to Butterfly
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:17:54 PM »
Was not sure where to post this, if not a good spot feel free to move it to the correct area.  A while ago I posted pics of a Monarch chrysalis, I had kept a close watch on it and here is the progression in pictures of a Monarch caterpiller transformation to butterfly.  The pictures span about a 2 week time frame, not all are in the best focus, of course by the time I loaded them on the computer it was to late to redo the shots, but you will get the idea.  The last one it had emerged and was still drying, took quite a few hours before it flew off.

Very nice pictures of the Monarch in its various stages!  O0 I have never seen a green Monarch chrysalis around here...I wonder why?  We do have lots of Monarchs during the year and even had several trees FULL of Monarchs one year when they decided to rest here during migration.  @O@ I wish I had had my digital camera then, but I didn't.   :'(

I do have a egg sac on the side of the house that I think belongs to the big Golden Orb Spider that resides there.  But that's still not a butterfly chrysalis.  :-\ I'm still going to leave it undisturbed.  I like Golden Orb Spiders.   ;)
