fifth bloom is a charm
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:03:19 PM »
So far this year my Victoria Longwood has had 5 blooms. I have watched each one with great anticipation. The fifth bloom finally produced a bloom which I was able to see what I call the "molten look." The bloom looks as though it is a volcano spewing molten lava over the sides of a white volcano. Or maybe it is strawberry sauce poured over vanilla ice cream. It is beautiful, regardless. Here are the first day and second day blooms.

Stunning!

If you live in a tropical area will the Victoria continue growing and blooming all year?  I seem to recall that it dies every year and has to be re-seeded.  That could be something more to do with weather than the lily though.

The Longwood is a night bloomer, but I do not know if other Victoria lilies are night bloomers. I assume they are as the Longwood is a hybrid lily.
