SNOWING
« on: October 27, 2008, 09:18:14 PM »
Can you believe it----it is snowing in the mountains of NC tonight!!  Supposed to be 19 degrees in the morning.

I am sure glad that I got my ponds ready for winter last week.

They're calling for a major snowstorm just north and east of us today/tomorrow.  I hope it misses us entirely.  I was hoping for a milder and less snowy winter than last year, but it's not looking that way.

I have friends who split their time between North Carolina and Galveston on the Texas Gulf Coast.  Guess where they are right now?   :D

Even this morning, in Houston, it's in the 40*'s.    Brrrrr!

Glad I cleaned and closed my skippy filter two weeks ago when it was 60 degrees . . .

We also had some flurries yesterday.  Will be cold again tonight (mid 20's) but they are calling for a 2 day warm-up, maybe 60*, to bad I have to work as the ponds could use another vacuum before closing, and the weekend is again in the upper 40's.  Glad I got the tropicals all in.  Even broke down and turned on the heat yesterday as it was 59* in the house when I got home from work.  I hate winter.

Marla,

Living in Wisconsin, you really have to find something to do in the winter outside.

How about ice fishing????

Well that's Global Warming for  ya!   ;D

We had flurries yesterday with some freezing rain/sleet. Unusual for this time of year. My Cannas and Green beans are dead. Luckily I brought the orchids inside along with the Taro.

Reedman, you are correct. Another six month winter.  ::) I wish I'd had cleaned my filtration last weekend, when it was nicer weather... :'( As it is today, the leaves clogged up the stream so bad that my pond lost 6" of water and the Sequence was spitting air. Had to remove all string algae & clear some rocks from the stream to keep the water flowing. Did I expect anything less? Nope. But it's that realization that winter is upon us that gets me. Lots of clouds and lots of snow.
Bad Ju-Ju.

It came it quick.  Snap, boom, bang and it was cold.   Maybe we will have an early winter, with a early spring.  One can always wish and dream, right?

We've got most of our plants in.  We normally don't dig up our banana's and canana's until after a good frost on the leaves.  Hmmmm, suppose to have a nice warm up by the weekend, well see.  Hopefully they'll be alright until the weekend. If not ole well, getting a little tired of digging them up each year, then planting them.  I do need to mulch the Hardy Banana's.

Hope everyone gets their plants and ponds covered, dug or protected.

Yuck, cold.

It was 30°F this morning at our house in Morriston, Florida. The plants did well but I might lose all my tilapia again. The first time was when the hose fell out of the plant filter. I've already seen some baby and adult tilapia on their backs on the bottom. I put a heater in there today but I don't think it's working. I hope a few of them makes it so they repopulate in Spring. :(
Happy ponding,
