Sorry buddy.....but ya gotta move...
« on: December 03, 2008, 12:59:48 PM »
There is a plant in the garden that has become quite invasive, "Gregg's Mist Flower" (Eupatorium Conoclinium greggii), and today I decided to dig it up and put a root barrier around it.  I felt guilty tackling this job because the plant is a butterfly magnet and only a few flowers remain.  This Monarch, and another one, didn't seem to mind my presence while ripping out the plant and its runners.  I managed to save a couple of rooted flowering stems and placed them in a bucket with water.  It wasn't long before they found its new location.....

Invasive plants that attract butterflies are welcome in my garden.  o(:-)

That monarch looks like he/she has put on some miles... poor thing. Lucky you have the flowers for it.  @O@

Savannah: Yes, she does look a bit scratched up.  It's been a long summer for her.  I believe I read that Gregg's Mist Flower is native to the Southwest so I imagine it should grow quite well for you.  If you want some send me a pm with your address and I'll go trash-can diving and salvage some for you.  Let me know soon though because Friday is trash pick up......

Annette: The light blue flower to the left of the butterfly is Gregg's Mist.  Here's a photo I took some time ago.

Here's a photo I enjoy that our son took a year or two ago of Monarchs on the same plant.  They become so focused on the nectar that it is very easy to get the camera right up close.  In my photo in the first thread the camera was perhaps 4-5" from the butterfly.

That sure is a beautiful powder blue!  But I don't need invasive...still pulling out very healthy roots and sprouts of a mint plant I didn't buy.  Thanks to Rodger's Garden I have it growing all over my front garden like a spiderweb!!  >:(  >:(-

Your son's Monarch photo is beautiful too.  O0

Beautiful pictures, I also miss the butterflies, the only thing flying around here lately is snow, even the birds are hiding due to the cold, it's 11*F right now, but that's up from the 4*F this morning
