Deer Pix ...
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:08:02 AM »
Kinda dark cuz it was about 6:45-7am. Sun was rising over the ridge.
The herd came by to eat the birdfeeder fall out and to see if I had put anything extra out for the birds. (stale rolls, etc)

They didn't find much.
Notice: All the arborvitaes and other shrubs (in the background) have been denuded by the deer grazing them...
no foliage on the first 5-6 feet from the ground. As high as a deer can get standing its hind legs.
You normally can not see my neighbors houses because the trees and shrubs screen them out.
There are 5 deer under the feeder...one is hiding in this pic...

See him now?

Walking up to the ridge...

Gigi watching from the sliding deck doors ....and growling...

Ally watching too...

This pussy willow 'bush' has been artfully trimmed by the deer into a small multi-stemmed tree...

Going up over the ridge, into the sunrise...

Beautiful visitors even though they can be destructive.  I had to smile yesterday as I passed two deer browsing on the shrubs inside the snow fence enclosure a home owner had put around his front garden.   ;)  emm

Great pix, thanks for sharing them. Your deer look a LOT fatter than our deer! I'll have to get out there and take some pix to compare. If I were a hunter, I would way prefer your deer over mine. ;)

I love wild animals and your deer are chubby--maybe they have spring fawns in them!!  :)

Hopefully you will get the warm up we are going to get in the next few days and your snow will be gone and you can see the ground again.  I don't know why I've got spring fever so bad this year.  We've had the normal cold and snow, it just seems like it has stretched on forever!

I am hearing red-winged blackbirds every now and then, and that's a good sign! :D

I sat up in bed Wed. morning to see 2 deer outside my window. I got up to watch them and ended there were 5 under our birdfeeders. Only we don't have any snow on the ground. The reason why they look like they are well fed is because they look to be all does, so they are pregnant and ready to drop their young in a few weeks. I'll post my pics tomorrow. It's late and I have to resize first.

So wonderful to see wild life in your own backyard!!  I would sit there and watch until they leave!  Nothing would get done!

Thanks for the great photos!

Yes, these were does and yearlings that have just lost their spots.
The fat, squat, pushed in faces are the yearlings. (baby-faced)
They also sseem to have longer hair than the adults ...kinda shaggy too.

The does are definitely preggers...and the yearlings are just fat.  ::)

Ponderer they sure can mow the shrubbry. I was showing dh the other day how they have totally clipped a bunch of my Azalea bushes.  >:( >:(

This pic was taken at  9:10 a.m. Guess the were up for a snack.  :P  The deer licking the feeder is a big doe. Only big deer can reach that feeder. Almost every night when I take the dog out I'll see deer running to the top of the yard and they watch us. After we go back inside they come back down. Well trained deer they are.  lol

Beautiful pics!  I love watching our deer, they come up to our house in big herds, too.  I often feed them apples in the winter.  I feel very badly though, because in my effort to help them, I am probably making them too comfortable around people.  I was horrified when my neighbor told me last week that he shot one of the deer in his backyard.   :'(
