Works like a charm. No more topping off or worrying a neighbor will fail to or leave the hose running. What you see here is now coverd with nice round rocks. Only a tiny bit shows.
Before it was all pvc, looked awful.

You coulda spray painted that black before installing it, to disguise it more. I bet the rocks over the top make a big difference.

Not a lot of digging Landey. I am lazy and just made sure the ground was wet. It's not deep either.
Here is what the trench looked like. This was before I re routed it. Seems i do everything twice!

You can see how I scatter my stuff all over the place. Not a cool workman at all, but, I do get it done.

excellent Jerry ! I use black paint all the time to hide anything exposed even when it's stuff not seen from the front,.. only when needing to go to the back for maintenance.

I have a question about that....if you use a float valve, you put chlorinated water in the pond from your water source...do you just add dechlor at some point or are you just taking your chances that it's burning off before it does harm? I know it's a little at a time, but I keep getting told that I need to use dechlor when I top off the pond, so I just use a charcoal filter (RV supply store) and it eliminates all the chlorine and chloramines. I've used it for a couple years now and all seems to thrive pretty well.

Michael, I use a timed sprinkler drip to add water during warm climate to add a bit of water daily and it doesn't hurt anything. From your suggestion I use a water filter for bigger fills. Works great and no more fumbling Dechlor!

The first mod I made to my pond last summer was a Hudson valve. It isn't permanently installed, yet. I just screwed it to the end of a hose and dropped it in the pond, adjusted it to the correct level, and put a rock on the hose.

I had a leak in my waterfall that dropped the level about 1/2 inch per day, and the valve fixed that problem. Then I was able to address the leak on my own schedule.

It worked all summer, and it was great not to have to worry about the level.

This summer, I will actually install it, something like Jerry did.
