The journy of my pond....A very long journy
« on: September 11, 2008, 04:26:56 PM »
Hi Guys and gals
A little about my self..
I have been in koi and pond for over 5 years. I have always every year redid my pond or made a new one and let me tell you ponding is all fun but redos get old altought I love to do it. So In the summer of 07 I made a trip to Dans Berry Texas to Bretts koi farm, Need less to say I had a blast on the trip. I was having dinner with Savanna ( Cant spell it right sorry Sav) And Roak (2 Fine folks of that city  O0) We were talking about koi and ponds and I told them about mine. So we starting saying I should have made mine bigger, And I did so ovewr MY summer of 08 And the spring ive almost dug my new pond. Its a BIG hole I tell you ! It 10 x 21 x 5.5 Over 8,000 gallons compared to the 1,700 gallon puddle I once had.
So now that im done boreing you ill give you the run down on my pond which will never be done lol.
OK the pond is 10x21x5.5 over 8,000 gallons. The fillter is a Sand and gravel fillter that is 10x5x3 and is 1,700 gallons nothing fancey just your basic fillter.
There are 2 4'' airated bottom drains that lead to my 2 360 gallon settlement chambers and from that goe to my pump for the bottom drain that pumps 8,500 gallons at a 1 ft ? lift ?. then to 2 55 gallon static fillter ( 55 gallon berral full of PVC shavings) and then leads to my gravel fillter.
From the 16'' savio skimmer it goes to a 30 gallon berral full of nothing then to my 5,500 gph pump to the gravel fillter I think BUT I may end up adding a another 360 gallon fillter.
So for now this is all i have ill try to get some pixs tommro for yall.

Not bad for a fifteen year old. By the age of twenty you might buy lake okeechobee.

Hey Jonathan, how is your fish doing? Your new pond is going to be nice when you finish it. Are you still at KoiPhen? Did you ever get any lotus seed started?

Hey Howell, Jonathan is a smart kid when it comes to koi. I knew him from KoiPhen before I really got going good in this forum. I've noticed that both of you have something in common, your spelling has improved. :)
Happy ponding,
Scott o(

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

At least your parents know where to find you!  ;)  Maybe I missed it, but did you dig this with a backhoe, or just your back?  Makes my back ache just thinking about it.

The crucial -- and expensive -- part is about to begin.  Concrete, liner, bottom drains, plumbing, pumps, etc., etc.

Nice work.
