Where did spring go? My string algae needs.....
« on: March 11, 2009, 07:22:41 PM »
I was going to say the String Algae needs pulled!!!

The other day, when it was nice and warm outside, I was pulling the String algae out of the stream and tossing it into the grass. Well we got a new puppy(dachshund) Scooter is about 3 months old. As I was tossing it, she was playing with it. OK so she wanted to have some fun!!

The next day I was sitting outside and Scooter was standing at the edge of the waterfall/stream, she slowly pawed at the string algae and got into the water and started pulling at it!!!  I couldnt belive my eyes!!!  So now I have been taking the camera out with me!!!

So now I have Scooter that likes String Algae and Moana that thinks the pond is her personal water dish!!

So far the  o( dont seem to mind the dogs being there.

HA...HA....bet that was cute!  I was just out there pulling out handfulls of string algae!!  The weather has been so warm!  But now it's getting chilly again so maybe it will back off.  That stuff is tough!

I find bits of it all over the house - she has doggie door freedom and brings it in to play with!!  I really dont think she knows about the fish yet!!!

I assume it wont hurt her to eat some of it. So far no digestive problems.

I  have a big Belgian sheepdog.  Ian doesn't eat pond algae; he thinks fish in a pond is unnatural {nono}.  But he does like to eat the grass that comes out of the lawn mower discharge -- by the fistful.  It doesn't hurt him, he doesn't gak it up, and it may be useful fiber.

I wish he ate algae.  Now that would be a pond cleaner! ;D

Your pup would have loved all the string algae that I pulled out of my ponds a couple weeks ago.  Cute story.

Our dogs and cats have used it as a water bowl, but never have tried eating the algae, to funny.
