Pump run time

Hello pond people. I will be going on vaction and leaving my pond in my mother-in law's hands,(scary thought).
Any adivice on leaving my filter pump on a timer set at 12 hours on, 12 hours off?

Do you have fish?  If so, your filter should run 24x7 to perform bilogical filtration.

I agree with Sonny.  I don't see any location for you so I don't know what zone you are in, but I think most of us run our pumps 24/7, especially in spring and summer.

Yep, my pump runs 24/7 except for winter.  It is now back in full force until late Fall.  O0

But I have heard of ponds where the electricity went off for several days and the fish were OK. I'm not saying the pumps shouldn't run all the time. Why again would you think it be beneficial to just run it half a day?

If we're voting, I say 24/7. You need to heep it going so your biofilters will cycle and the good bacteria don't die. also it will help add oxygen to the pond and filters to help improve water quality.

We have a 2 speed motor.  Winter is high all day & low all night.  Summer is high all the time.

I still want to know what he hope the benefit of 12 on and 12 off while he is gone will be. I would think that when a person is gone would be the time when you don't want to run the risk of trying something new. Obviously the lady left in charge won't know what to do or how to make things better if something goes wrong.
