:o  I have a question about lotus, I think I have killed three, I love them.  I live in Mo, are they supposed to overwinter in the low part of your pond like lillies?

Hello

They should be just fine there.  I have mine growing in tubs/ whiskey barrel liners sank into the gruond and they dive straight to the bottom of the pots for the winter and do just fine.  I am in zone 6.

well all the lotus I grow are hardies.  They tell me they have to freeze solid.. I am not sure if there are a type of tropical lotus like there are tropical lilies or not.  Just all the lotus I have seen here on the forum are hardy.  Maybe someone with real knowledge will chime in ;0)

Tink,
There are tropical lotus, but you're right- all any of us around here grow are the hardies, by far the most common.  I know about the tropical from the great booklet Kelly Billings and Paula Biles put together on lotus: The Lotus, Know It and Grow It.  The book's website is: http://www.aboutthelotus.com.  It has info, background, growing tips, fantastic pictures and lots of inspiration! It's way cool.
