A few drought tolerant plants from Australia
« on: April 06, 2009, 12:52:13 PM »
I have just the spot for them!

Excuse my lens cover. Have to watch that!
Bottom is a ground cover, low growing too. Westringia jarvis.
next is a Yucca!  Beschernaria yuccoides. Last is a gret succulent. Dudleya brittomi.

Mike w and Mikey both love Worldwide Exotics, the source of these plants

Jerry, what camera are you using? Mine did the same when the gator came to visit.
Happy ponding,

I'm slowly integrating many drought tolerant plants into my garden too.  There are many plants from Aussieland making their way over here.   I love the succulent.

As soon as I saw your Dudleya photo I recognized it thanks to our recent wild flowers hike in which our hike organizer identified the plants in the below photo as Dudleyas.  These were growing on a volcanic boulder and were pretty small but we also saw one quite large that apparently was in better soil and perhaps getting more water.  I too am slowly converting to more drought tolerant plants.

Very cool Jerry!  O0

But it's not a yucca, it is a Beschorneria yuccoides.
The second name of yuccoides simply translates as 'leaves like yucca'.
But it is a Beschorneria.
No where near as hardy as most Yuccas.

They sell them around here as annuals, but if covered and mulched well they will overwinter.  8)

I learned of these plants from a local garden writer.  he is good but, not infallible.
He wrote about my pond and garden a few years ago.  I had posted it.  here it is again.
Joyce you would go nuts at World wide Exotics.  They are open but 2 days a week.  They really do have stock from around the world!  I need to take photos of the grounds.  Very un nursery like.

Nice shots Mikey. I knew you would respond!
