We purchased our home in Texas 2.5 years ago. In the last 6 months, we've finally gotten around to a few projects we've been meaning to do. We did some things before then, but it's getting closer to being complete now. For those of you not from Texas, the majority of homes (at least in my area) are brick and there are a lot of stained fences and similar shutters. I'd say it's 'Texas Style'.
Here's the place when we bought it. Boxy hedges, outdated shutters, etc. There was a new fence and sprinkler system, which are both nice.
Closer view.
We put in new windows, rounded off the hedges, put in some ivy, and an obnoxious Florida flag that drives all the Longhorn fans nuts. Hahaha! You might also remember the mosaic mailbox that I made.
The home had a brand new fence that started to weather, so we stained it in December.
Shortly after, we stripped the poor stain job on the deck and stained it to match. This photo was taken last night. I also painted my red adirondack chairs green a few weeks ago.
In February, we finally bought the tile we picked out long ago and repaired and tiled the front porch. We also replaced an old post with a cedar post and stained it to match. It's a terra cotta colored tile with chisled edges. It coordinates with the brick really well.
Just last weekend, we finally built and stained cedar shutters to match everything. I am amazed at how much lighter the brick looks with the wooden shutters. The black seems to really darken things. We still need to fasten the last set. With all the rain this week, it hasn't been easy to finish installing.
I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a new front door and some brighter landscaping. Anyone have suggestions for adding color?
