I finally found a home for the preform
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:16:28 PM »

I've had this preform maybe 4 years and never found a good place for it until now. Pete ran electricity over by it so I can run a fountain there. The cement is where the sidewalk and the pool patio come together. I have always needed something in that corner and finally decided to do this. The grass behind magically appeared yesterday. It is where the two septic tanks were installed last fall and the lawn was all dug up of course. Seeing we are having a 25th anniversary/classic car party the 20th of June, we had to get it covered in a hurry so bit the bullet and bought $100 of sod. That was preceded by about $75 worth of black dirt and bluegrass seed. Now we have to make sure it stays watered and grows.

I didn't like the way the top edge of the preform looked and am not happy with slate or fieldstone so purchased those fake cement rocks that are used to front fireplaces of house walls. I bought the "L" shaped pieces that go around corners. The backs are flat so layed flat on the edge. The other end of the "L" is sunk down in the dirt to hold them in place and keep them steady.

There are 3 young water lilies in there just starting to grow and a couple of something else I don't remember that will grow above the water and hopefully disguise the cord that hangs down from the fountain.

Smokey was checking out my work. Actually he thinks it is a handy drinking bowl. The birdbath in the center is a fountain. It has a lotus shape flower at the top and then pads and a couple of frogs below.

Esther, that looks so nice.  You and Pete put love and care into everything you do, and it shows.

Smokey is adorable:  he's probably waiting for you to get the camera off him so he can dig up some mulch   ::)

My DD#1 found a preform and now she has this pond addiction!  I'll have to snap some pix of her pond.  She rents, and the landlord and his wife are so pleased at how she has improved the look of the yard and she has made flowerbeds too.  (Basically, she turned a strip of yard into flowerbed to keep the landlord from blowing yard debris at her car when he mows  :o )

Thanks folks. It was a fun little project. I'm using pink Gerbera daisies this year instead of geraniums and managed to find a whole slew of pink ones. I like to use blue and pink in the back yard and around the pool. I still have to get a flat of Impatiens for up in the two sections by the house. It is very shaded there. Then it's putting the lawn decorations and furniture in place and then open the pool. Other than the last minute food prep, I don't think there's much to do before the big party the end of June. I found New York strip steaks on sale, a great sale too, so purchased them already a couple of months ago.

The cement is where the sidewalk and the pool patio come together.
You have a pool and it hasn't been converted to a pond yet?  {:-P;;
I've seen some really nice pool to pond conversions.
I told my wife if we ever buy another house and it has a pool, it won't be one for long. 8-)~
It would be full of turtles. If I want to cool off during the summer I can just get in there with them.  ;D

Very nice Esther.

Somehow I'm not at all surprised that you are ready for your June 20 party.

You are so organized O0

We've had the pool every since we moved here 38 1/2 years ago. It has been redone once and maybe 3 new liners put in during that time. Our kids spent countless hours in it and still bring their kids all summer long to swim here. The neighbor kids have enjoyed it over the years too. Now that we are getting old, we don't swim much but we like to entertain by it. Here's last year's classic car party.

That looks really nice, Esther.  That was a really clever idea.   I like your sod too.

Smokey looks so cute posing there.  He looks very proud.

Looks great!  You mean you didn't do the grass by seed, lol.  Too much Farm Town huh, tired of sowing.  No, I fully understand.  You needed it done and didnt' have time for it to grow.

Again, looks perfect.

Yah Kim. IF it wasn't for the party and maybe 50 people walking through that area, we would have seeded.
