Platinum Ogon
« on: May 13, 2009, 12:10:35 PM »
Guess the "butterfly" koi my mother bought turned out to be an Ogon.  @O@ I was sure she had it right till I saw the fins. Short compared to my actual platinum butterfly koi. Solid white where Monarchs is clear towards the ends. It's rather small and thin so In a week or two I'll bet he will be calmer and more used to the new schedule. I am getting a cam today hopefully so GET READY FOR PICTURES!!!!

The fins on butterfly koi can vary.  Some lines are more "dragon" fin and some are shorter and only look like slightly longer normal finned koi..not what I think a butterfly should be.

Some butterfly offspring will have short fins. That's a throw back. They are lovely fish - and nothin' is wrong with that.  @O@

If its a "true" ogon, the color should go all the way to the end of the fins. :) That's a GOOD thing. The head should be a single color, without clouding.
Some slight matsuba is allowed - the edges of the scales may be slightly darker, producing a netted appearance.
