It will be either a bust or spectacular. I am opting for the latter.
The old one will be removed when the new one is completed.  The net has kept the herons away.
The new one will have 30% shade fabric.  It actually is cheaper than the netting!  We are talking 16' X 34 feet.  The arch uses about 5 feet.
The photos are self explanatory....I hope.  The finished product soon.  The kids will be here Sunday for Mother's day, but It won't be complete.

It will be great Jerry.
You know what your doing and if you say it will look spectacular, well then it will. I am a believer.
I have been here almost a year now. I never saw your netting canopy. Soon you will have a shade fabric canopy that I will never see but it will be better.

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Jerry, you remind me of ME. I can finish a wood project and everyone that sees it will brag and compliment me but I won't think that it's all that good. I have confidence in you, Jerry. :)
Happy ponding,

Thanks Scott. I think we feel that way because we know all the things that went wrong.

Got it done today, whewww,  hot too.  The shade Fabric is ordered and will install next week.  This is really high.  I like the idea.  The top shot is from an upstairs window.  It can give you and idea of the height.
The next pic is  the center looking up.  Both ends are bolted down.  I will need a trained monkey to do the center.  I think we won't even try.
The old net is strictly temporary.  I am sure this Sunday my son-in-law will ask if I plan to cover the framework. >:(-

Thanks all.  I will post photos when the cover is on.
It will be cavernous!  I think Elephant Ears and Bananas will love it.

Wow, quite impressive....... O0 O0, even if I did that, with 2 acres the heron would still find a spot to land and walk in, getting a good take off though would be impossible without walking out first.  Anyway I love it!!!!!

Jerry, that is fantastic!  Can't believe you did it all by yourself.  It's high enough to feel spacious, but surely will protect from the predatory birds.

 Good job!

PS:  Your pond is beautiful, BTW.

Very nice.

I built a similar structure over my pond a few years ago but I used black nylon netting with a 4" mesh - no herons or egrets can get in but the small birds can.

He would love it.
He is in construction and it is very slow.
I did this one alone, but not complictaed at all.  It keeps the cars cool and cleaner.
Reedman that's what I had. Amazingly I sold it (cheap) on Craig's list.  The cool guy who bought it will join our site! Carl is a whiz on amphibians.

He didn't know how!  I knew how and showed him.  I had to be present at all times.  He is handy as heck and did a few very clever mechanical moves.
I was going to use a turnbuckle, but Juan made an existing eye bolt act as one!  he did several other things that Id never have even thought of. O0

We could do it better now that we know how.
