Look what you can get for 99 cents!!!
« on: May 11, 2009, 02:47:34 PM »
My DH is a classical guitarist in the evenings.  He performs for the family almost every evening whether we are in the same room or not  ;D  Sometimes when we go out for a bit he likes to stop by a local guitar center to gossip with other guitarists and the talented salespeople (talented because they can make DH part with his $$).  He spends hours at a time there and since I don't talk guitar I go out to the rest of the mall.

Next door is the 99 cent store.   As soon as I walked in there look what I grabbed up as fast as possible!  They were the last ones there.  A small succulent of cactus in a small ceramic pot for only....guess!.....YES!...99Cents each!

While I'm here let me show you the rest of the succulent tray I made last spring/summer.  Some plants have been replace when I needed to make a small plant gift.  And some new ones were placed in the tray when I came across some new interesting plants.  This tray has been blooming flowers from almost every plant at one point or another all year round.  Best and easiest potted plants I have.

Still a few more succulent tray marvels...

Hows about the strawberry pot now cactus and succulent habitat.  Cactus flowers last for a few weeks if not more!

Then we find ourselves in the little rock garden I created in a corner of the front walk.  This blue flowering plant has a name I can't recall but it is yet another 99 Cent store find as a bulb.  Allium of some kind?  Cool though....

The best plants are the ones that find their own way into the garden and they also happen to be the strongest plants in the bunch.  Here in the rock garden I have a calla lily growing with barely any water and it grows very hardily.  The white ranuculus also found their way into the display.

The alpine rock plant started my rock garden craze faze.  Bought this as a very small 2" plant from Trader Joe's two years ago and it has not grown much until I put it in the rock garden a month ago.  Now it's blooming and re blooming beautiful pinkish orange yellow frilly petaled flowers.

Hoped you enjoyed this side of the 99 cent store with my sucs and cacs.  :D

Jerry, I'm sure you have many of these cacs and sucs in humongous size.  Is the top center plant like a jade plant?  I hope not...I have big ones growing unattended too.

I have never noticed plants at our dollar store.  I'll have to keep my eyes open. :o

Your succulents are really nice.  So much texture and color. o(:-)

There is a Guitar Center next to our dollar store too, as well as a Tuesday Morning.  My son is the manager at the Guitar Center.  He is also in two bands that play at bars and clubs on the weekends.  He is absolutely music nuts. :D

Enjoyed the pics, all I have are hen and chicks, but they are at their best right now. o(:-)

Thank you Karen.  My DH can spend a couple of hours at the Guitar Center, playing and yaking it up.  I've gone up and down every aisle at least twice waiting for him.  I'm getting smarter now though and as soon as I drop him off I go to a local nursery first before stopping by 99 cent for possible plant sales.  O0

Hens and chicks are the best and fastest for fillers.

Those are so cute!  Great buy  O0 O0  Our closest 99 Cents Store closed down, so now I have to drive quite a distance to get to one & can no longer check for bargains :(

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Silver dollar must have rounder bigger leaves than the usual garden variety jade, right?

But then I've had jades that grew really big leaves when given proper care.  Really difficult to abuse it!

Don't worry, Joyce will have no cause to beat you.  It is Silver Dollar.
