does the water in a lotus pot "boil" the plant?
« on: May 16, 2009, 03:50:21 AM »
Okay so I've been wondering this for some time now and have been faithfully adding water to my stand alone pots when the water evaporates.  I live in Florida and keep worrying that the water will reach too high of a temp and "boil" the plant being that it is a small body of water.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

I grow all of mine in pots outside the pond...Here in Oklahoma they do fine...during the summer we can get between 100 to around 108 or so....I do make sure they get morning sun and afternoon shade....

When I use to grow my lilies in a kiddie pool I had an umbrella over them where the high sun would not fry/boil them.  Sometimes it got so hot the poor feeder fishies I kept with the lilies to eat the mosquitoes literally boiled, or stewed slowly.  :P

Wish I had lotus, period, growing.  :'(

Sorry Michelle, about the heat that is!  Phewwww, that's waaaaay tooooo HOT!  And so early already....here in So. Orange County we feeling 76 degrees today and maybe 80's tomorrow.  OK, that's hot enough!   :P

Yeah, shade in the afternoon when the sun is hottest is the best deal for potted plants in the water or out.  ;)
