Braes Bayou
« on: June 13, 2009, 08:43:27 AM »
Braes Bayou is just a couple of blocks from my house.  They've ruined its natural beauty, lining it with concrete, in the name of flood control.  But there are some nice old oaks down there, dripping in Spanish Moss.

The bayous were healthier when they were nearly swamps. Now they dry out - which is why the authorities channelized them. :(

We need to get Joyce over to Armand's - don't you agree? Its still an old untamed bayou....

Yep, I agree!  When I was a kid we would hang out at the Armand Bayou Nature Center.  It was a total blast.  I haven't been in a few years but the last time I was there it was still wild!  Well, except for the deer that would follow you around like a dog.   :)  But it is a wonderful display of our natural habitat.

The bike trail around Braes Bayou rocks!  Level, smooth, wide, and safe, plus it goes for miles and miles, providing a good workout.  Here in Montrose, we have to deal with broken pavement, sand pits, dust bowls, and muggers.  I did the Braes trail a few months ago, and would like to make it a more regular part of my Sunday morning bicycle workouts.

You can't beat the South's Live Oaks!
