Pictures of my new pond, plus some questions
« on: June 09, 2009, 12:59:33 PM »

Yes, we will be replacing the extention cords with permanent wiring.
Also I am planning on building a trickle tower but I am still forming my ideas.

When I bought the plants, I forgot what I bought.
What is the name of this plant?:

And this plant?:

The pond is approx. 750 gallons.  Fish Mate Clear Pond pressurized uv and bio pond filter system 2000 ps

Looking good!  O0
It's Thalia dealbata and then Horsetail Rush aka Equisetum hyemale8)

If they start growing poorly you might want to raise then so the rims are just out of the water.  8)

Thank you Joyce.
The guy at the nursery said that when the thalia and horsetail get bigger, I can drop the pots down to the bottom of the pond.  Is this true?  Or do they do better at the surface of the pond?  And when you say growing poorly, what do you mean?

Nice looking family, too!

I think that I have a Thalia dealbata. I was given a preform pond with two pumps, a filter, a spitter, tubing, a water lily, pickerel rush, and a third plant that looks like a canna but I wasn't sure.
Happy ponding,

Looks nice, great job. I'm thinking about building a deck and plumbing the pond settlement chamber into a bog in the center of the deck about 8'X8' with 6' of deck space all around it. I'll have to have some mosquito fish in it down here or we won't be able to sit near it though.

Oh yeah, was gonna ask about mosquito fish.  Do many folks put them in their ponds?  We just have 4 goldfish in there right now.  The pond is about 750 gallons.  What do you guys recommend as far as fish load?  How many mosquito fish?  I think I don't need to get any more goldish as they will be reproducing rapidly, I'm sure.

If your gonna have goldfish I would nix the mosquito fish...I only use them in ponds or pools without koi or goldies..they multiply like rabbits and you really don't see them very well...the goldies will take care of any mosquitos....if you put only one female mosquito fish in there she can give birth to 50+ babies and have up to 3 pregnancies from one breeding so trust me they would have the pond overran with the little critters in no time....

I have mosquito fish in every pond and tub. Yes they have babies but I have a lot of bull frogs so that helps keep down the population. Also I give a lot of them away to other ponders. I also have koi and goldfish .

very nice pond!  Welcome and I agree with joyce.  Any plant I put in the pond bog does better for me when its ankles are not submerged in the water.
