My sarassa comets: they're mutts but I love 'em and a shot of the pond.  Don't look for weeds, there's a plenty!  ;)

Thank you!  The largest fish are probably 8 to 10 inches from head to tail, and then they gradually get smaller since they are the babies from each year.  They were bought the first year only maybe 2" long.  I haven't lost any to sickness---just BULL FROGS!!   :o

i love your ponds and your fishies!  Seems the only fish I can find around here are either orange comets or koi.  A nother year or so and my  koi are gonna be to big for my ponds and I want to go with ones that stay smaller and less destructive on the lilies. where are you at kittyzee... seems we might be close .  Bunnie and
I didnt realise how close we were.

Thank you everyone, ponding is a labor of love isn't it?   o(:-)

Tink, look for Urbana, Ohio on the map.  I'm 6 miles east of it.  Only 40 minutes north of Dayton and about the same from Columbus.

jw:  I bought them several years ago from Jacks Aquarium and Pets.  I bought feeder comets, some shubunkins and 1 fancy fantail.  The little fantail was much too slow I guess but I never found out what happened to it.  The shubunkins were quite large but I lost them to bullfrogs.  They're just not fast like a comet.  However, the shubunkins and the comets got a chance to breed and these are their offspring.   o(:-)

Oh so is that why they have such lovely long tails I wonder. I don't want to spend a lot so I will search around for some at the pet shops around here and see what I can come up with. Maybe get a few Shubunkins and see what happens in the breeding. Thanks for letting me know.

I love the ground cover plants spilling between the rocks.  Your sarassas are beautiful.  I bought one recently, and it never has developed those long graceful fins - I'm disapointed, and wondering if I got gipped, and they were selling comets under the name (and higher price) of sarassas.

I like the location of the pond next to your super porch.  Beautiful fishies!  I like the colors and the long fins too.

Thanks everybody!  You know I never thought about "why" my fish have such long tails and fins.  Do you suppose it is because the comets and the shubunkins crossed?  Usually comets don't have long fins do they?  I don't think the original ones did.  :D

Beautiful!  Love the wagon wheel & how you planted between the rocks.  For several years I just kept keeping the fish with the longest of tails & finding homes for the others.

Beautiful fish

I origanally bought one Sarassa and 4 orange feeders.  After many crosses I now have some pretty longtail colored fish.  I have way to many to keep them all.
