Frost Finally!
« on: November 05, 2006, 06:37:45 AM »
We finally had a bit of a frost. (8:-)
Nothing big, the top half of my impatiens and begonias are dead, bottom half are still alive and blooming.

And Andreana, in the urn, was iced over.

They keep threatening frost here, and every time they do I haul all my potted plants in the house, but it hasn't happened yet . . . .

I'd love to be able to play in the snow but I am glad that I don't have to deal with that too often. Mother Nature just messing with our plans for beautiful lilies.

Is it?

Lawanna,
Speaking of frost, I got a Tropicana with multiple stalks at Lowes today for a buck. Should I just overwinter it in the greenhouse or let it go dormant or what?

Kay,
I brought in my tropicana and my bengal tiger cannas...those two were the hardest to find and the most expensive....so to be on the safe side I would bring it in...all the other varieties- I just mulch really heavy...they have formed huge colonies and have made it for 4 winters now outside...

Tropicana came back for me outdoors for several years and then one year it didn't.  I'd put it in the greenhouse if you have room . . . .cuz it might make it or it might not.

How sad. Winter is here. We got our first frost last week. All the annuals are mush and the tropicals are in the greenhouse waiting to be moved back into the sunroom as soon as I get the tanks set up. We are now into our normal west coast monsoon rains which will likely continue until spring. Yuk!

We had our hard frost this week.  Shoot, one morning it was only 22 degrees out...burrrr.  But I've got everything tucked away for the winter, and the rest in the greenhouse.  I went out there today, everything seems happy.  One of my hybiscus was blooming in there too, that made me happy.

I'm glad your weather in KY is so good this week, Kim...my shipment of rare palm trees from Hawaii has to come through KY via UPS. They wouldn't ship last week because you guys were too cold...but they sent them out today and I should get them by Wednesday!!!! I am REALLY excited.
