Help........please......
« on: August 03, 2008, 05:57:40 PM »
I have a cobra lily ( Sarr) that I would like to plant in a floating pot in my pond, but would like to ask a few questions about the potting material........

I've read that you use sand, clay, spag moss, and peat.........Do you mix these all together or are they layered in the pot?

Is living spag moss really neccesary, and if so where do you get it?

The plant was purchased at Lowes in a sealed plastic container, do I need to dampen it off slowly :-\, or do I just open the container and plant it in the prepared pot?

I'm asking because I've never successfully grown one for more then a few weeks, and I tired of watching the poor things die......... :'(

Thank you in advance for any and all advice ;)......

Vicky

I used Schultz's Aquatic Potting Soil  and some regular dirt as filler (because Schultz is pricey)...it has worked fine for a few years now.

Hi aravenschild,

Because I was about to do the same thing, I would think most everyone that read your post was going to wait for an answer as well.

Now, I'm just as curious as you are. I would likw to start a floating container of C plants like a cobra lilly and maybe a few other C plants.

Okay, I did a little bit online recon and found the following information; http://www.thegardenhelper.com/cobralily.html

Hopefully, this should be a start. What I did was google cobra lilly, and the information was endless.
