'Beni-Oran'
« on: August 23, 2009, 11:36:22 AM »
There has been so much going on lately at home that I have not spent much time in the yard and I nearly missed the blooming of my favorite ginger, Hedychium 'Beni-Oran'

Beautiful color and shape!  Tell me your secret for growing such a healthy specimen....  How long does the bloom last?

Annette: The blooms on this variety are large.  I don't think they are large because of anything I have done.  They start blooming from the bottom and work their way to the top.  As I recall they only last about 1 week looking this good and then they start fading out from the bottom and working their way up to the top.  The flowers are fragrant but the long stamens will tickle one's nose/face  lol  They make a lousy cut flower and will wilt soon after being cut.

Gorgeous! Will they bloom like than in a pot?
I'd bring the whole pot in, instead of trying to cut the bloom.  o(:-)
