Finally got in the low voltage lights, but having troubles getting good night pics. Any suggestions on how to get better shots?

I'm really diasppointed I wanted to a shot of the moon (one of the more impression moons I have seen at 1/8, with a wonderful orange and reflection on the water, but by the time I went in and got the camera it was hidden in clouds.

Man can it get any better? Yes I see it can with every picture you take of your place

. I tried to take moon pics one night also when it was a beautiful red color and it came out looking all white:

I love those retaining walls with the art on them, I'm wanting to do something similar to that.
