A few pics from 2-20-07
« on: February 25, 2007, 10:36:24 PM »
Well, the greenhouse got blown to heck. The first two pix are after collecting the plastic and rolling it into piles. I cut and replaced some of the broken PVC. I hope to recover it tomorrow. Fortunately we have hit mild spring temps. 45 - 50 at night and almost 70 during the day.
Before it got blown to heck I did have blooming lilies and so far they have continued.
It's not a lot but I know so many of you are facing some of the worst winter weather in a few decades. I gives these to you in hopes it will brighten your week.

Glad your lilies survived the windstorm. Thanks for the beautiful pics. Hopefully our snow will disappear soon....

Well I got the greenhouse about 85% covered today. It was very windy again so the plastic did not want to cooperate. I will finish it tomorrow, God willing.
I did take a few more shots today before I got sunburned for the first time this year.

Okay, I'm convinced, more waterlilies in my pond next summer those pretty pics have converted me. There are some blue tropicals growing in a drainage ditch about an hour from here, I might do a little diggin in the winter. lol
Sorry to hear about the damage to your greenhouse Tim but glad to hear it is up and running again.I can't imagine battling the elements the way some of you guys have to, more credit to you.
Cheers Carole.

Yep, Lindsey is one of my favorites. It has one of the darkest sepals out there. Deep purple, almost black.
She was created here in the Lone Star State and was named after a courageous little girl who battled cancer with dignity and hope but lost. See the link for more info...

What a touching story.
I may look in to buying one. I haven't tried to over-winter a tropical lily yet but maybe I will if I get this one. I love the colors.

Oh what a task you had on your hands.  Glad you got done.  Your pics are beautiful, love all the colors.

Just a little over 2 weeks ago, my ponds were froze.  As soon as you walked outside, your teeth would chatter.  Weather in KY, if you don't like the weather stick around a day it will change.  I noticed yesterday 2-27-07 I saw my day lilies popping through the ground... @O@ and they are talking about thunderstorms tomorrow....yup spring is on its way.

Glad you got your green house fixed.  Just looooove all the pictures, definately have to get some tropicals for the new lily pond, now just which ones   Just seeing them all warms me up, snow on the way back here again the next few days, but the last few in the 30's has melted some of the snow off the pond I think now it's only about 12" deep.

Yes, elegans does grow wild in TX. I know most grow quite a bit farther south than I live. I have thought about going to dig some up but I have also learned that they go to seed at the drop of a hat but are not particularly helpful in crosses as the species plant traits are overly dominant.

I got a newsletter from the Nelson's today. For those of you who had read about the Lindsey Woods story on how it was named for the young cancer patient I have an update. Mike Swize discovered it in 1998. 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the lily through the Nelson's Water Gardens. $7195.00 was raised last year in 2006. That is a total of $31,000 donated to Texas Children's Cancer Pharmacology Research Group since the lily was introduced in 2000.

For those of you who have gotten the Pond Magazine that has attracted so many new forum members, there is an article in that magazine from Anita Nelson on how to build disappearring fountains. Just an FYI for those checking out the mag.
