I worked two all nighters, 4 pm to 4 am. I avoid caffeine, but felt a few tiny cups would keep me going. Probably a lot more than I realized. It was cold as well. The scene was a Mexican carnival.
I ended up with Palpitations. Not serious but scary as heck. Sleep was difficult with all the ponding! I knew my pulse was normal (60) After a few days I called the Dr and he said go to the ER. I did. Blood pressure, normal, blood tests, normal EKG, normal
Saw the Dr (Cardiologist) this morn and did all the tests again. ALL normal !
He said caffeine and lack of sleep will make palpitations happen.

The darn thing is I may not even be on camera after all that! :'(

Sorry to hear of your scare Jerry, you gotta take care of yourself.

My hubby has had atrial fib for 18 years. Yep, caffeine and stress can bring it on. He got really upset with his dr. recently when he had a scare. The dr. always says go to the ER. We have a very high deductible ($10,000.) and just wanted a call back from him with maybe some reassurance and an adjustment in his meds. He didn't call back for three days and by then things had settled down. I think he is going to a find a new dr.

I got a little "pounding" tonight, but not bad.
"Two and a half men" made me laugh so hard it vanished!

I imagine it is 2 steps forward and one back.

Sorry you had a scare, Jerry but the blessing in disguise is that you got checked out and now know that your tickers good. So many people walk around for years not knowing that they have a problem.

I also have a BIL who has had a couple of cardiac scares. He has now been fitted with a CPAP machine and won't be having strange palpitations, fatigue, etc. during his days. Did you know that not getting enough sleep (because of sleep apnea) can be a cause for irregular heart beats? In your case: staying up all night, adding caffeine to the mix, may have just been enough to throw your heart out of whack.

LuAnn, that is precisely what the Cardiologist said.
Fair this morning and I think it is fading. It is a bit like waiting for the other shoe to drop.
My beat is a steady 60. no arrhythmia or A Fib

If you want to try it again, the caffeine in tea is much less in strength, and it effects you differently. White teas and green teas have even less. I can't handle coffee, but can take occasional bits of tea with no problems.

Getting up and moving around is probably a better way to stay awake, though.

I now have hot water, lemon and honey for breakfast. Pretty pretty good.
I have many lemons.

My dad drinks a cup of hot water with each meal with nothing in it. But I don't know what he thinks it does for him. I should ask.

While I can handle a LITTLE tea, I can't drink coffee at all. I'm allergic. Oddly enough, it makes me go to sleep! I mean, like a DRUGGED sleep!

The doctor says I have a reversal thing, like kids, when you give them the stimulant Riddelan (sp?), instead of speeding them up, it slows them down, opposite of how it reacts in adults.

It was a super noisy place, but fun for me. She hated the din. Very tough talking. they showed 8 contenders including ours.
