Plant stand refurbished
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:25:40 PM »
After 12 years at the bottom of the pond I decided it was time to replace the rotted out wooden slats on my pvc plant stand.  Several of the 1/2" slats were completely rotted away.

I cut the three boards to replace the rotted wood and was two slats shy......so I ran off to Home Depot and bought one more board....

Once finished I sunk the plant stand back down to the bottom and I hope I won't see it for another 12 years.......

cool idea!  I had only thought of bricks and milk crates as plant stands.  If I ever get a good sized pond, I want to copy your idea!  :D

Mikey, with all the new materials out today, why did you go back to wood? Availability, price, or just a personal choice? Just wondering. :)
Happy ponding,

That's a really great idea for a plant stand you have going there.  I just have several levels of shelves around my pond and I sink my lily pots in the enter.  I'm still waiting for the lily to start sending up long stems to the surface.  They are down there but the weather here is up and down yet so I think it's just taking it's time.  If I had a bigger area, I'd sure like to try your idea.

Scott:  I believe the board material (fencing) is a wood composite, possibly TREX.  I found this fencing material at HD across the isle from the TREX decking but it was not marked with name or price.  It looked like wood grain but the outside texture had a plastic or vinyl feel to it.  It cut like wood and had a wood odor.  My son is a woodworker and he said it was TREX.

Good stuff there Esther.  Your plant stand just reminded me that the floor of my pond is slanted toward the bottom drain and I took that into consideration when I built the stand.  As I recall, one end is 2-3 inches higher than the other end.  I forgot all about that until just now.  I wonder if I got the stand back into the pond with the high end in the deeper part.....  Oh well, I'll try to remember to check the next time I work on it.....in another 12 years, give or take.....

Bob, Mikey isn't the only "ponder and carpenter." Check out my past posts from last year. Here is some of my work.

Hey, a ponder AND a carpenter!
LOL!  Good thing I didn't give you a close-up shot of those boards because the ends were not cut very straight......  My son got the wood working genes....

Now Scott clearly has the wood working genes.  Great job Scott!
