I am ready to make changes to my big pond but really have no clue how to start. The picture shows my existing pond. In the one end I have two submers. pumps with the output hoses ran up and over the side of the pond then burried in the dirt and ran up the hill to the waterfalls. so I have no cuts in the liner. The dock covered the plumbing coming out of the pond and the dock extends almost 3 ft into the pond. So I am losing almost 3 ft of pond to nothing but filters under a dock that I really cant get down into very well to clean.

I would like to build a settlement pond or even a bog next to the existing pond. Pull the pumps out of the pond and put them down in that to filter and send back up the hill to the waterfalls. I do not know how to get the water from the main pond into this new pond/filter or bog.. whatever would be best.

I cannot join two pieces of liner together so I am gonna have to run a pipe/plumbing from the main pond to this settlement pond. What type of Plumbing??? fittings???? do I use to do that so I dont have a leak. I am really clueless as to what to do I just know I want those pumps out of my main pond and free up that 3 ft area and move the dock back over this new pond.

I would really like the water to leave the main pond into a bog then exit the bog into the filter then pumped up the hill to waterfall but that seems to be VERY backwards from most bog designs I can find on the web.

Any suggestions on what I could do to get these pumps out of there the easiet possible way. It is not possible for me to go back and put in a bottom drain in the big pond.

these are the best I can find of the area. The pumps are currently in the filters shown on the diagram as the black filters. They are DIY crates with the pumps in them, so the pumps are under the dock also.

Yes, your plan is backwards.

Why not consider using the bog as a filter? Here is a link to our local water garden store about it http://nelsonwatergardens.com/data/resources/other/1_Bog%20Filter%20Construction.pdf (sorry, my computer won't make links - just cut-and-paste the html) and also, TimGod has written much on American Ponders about constructing a bog filter.

If the bog is placed above your pond, it will create a waterfall as it goes into the pond. That will take care of both the falls and filtration, plus give you a beautiful space for planting marginals.

You can still use a conventional filter if you want. My own bog is too small to adequately filter my pond, so I have a pressurized filter as well.

As for plumbing, PVC pipe with the proper primer and adhesive works great. Spray paint it black.

Is there anyway to put the settlement pond at the top of your falls?

My pumps are in the skimmer box of the pond and pump up into the settlement pond/bog at the top which overflows to the streams and falls.

I was debating whether I could tackle a bog up at the top of the waterfall, it would be very difficult on the side of that slope, woudl have to really build one side of the hill up for a berm so probalby not but its really what I would love to have up there.

Could you put the bog between where the dock and the waterfall are now? It looks to be slightly raised and if you diverted some of the waterfall water to the bog and then had that flow back into the pond it would look nice and give you some filtration through the bog.
