Sport from the King of Siam
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:22:15 AM »
I was waiting a long time for something to bloom, and as usual, one of the first for me is always this sport from the King of Siam that was given to me by Rich Sacher many years ago in 2002 when we traveled to the Portland IWGS symposium together.

I love this lily and it performs so very well.

Cheers,
Sean

Beautiful blue!  Since you've had the King since 2002 it must have grown over the years and split a few times, right?  Amazing what you can grow in your balcony pond!

Sean-How often do you have to repot/divide them to keep them small and how far apart is each dixie cup?
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

This one being a sport of KOS has some attributes different than King of Siam. First off, it has narrower petals and it does not burn, the petal colour is the same though as are the pads.
I like it, it's not as flaky as King of Siam.

I will do tuber propagation in the early part of the season to increase my stock then leave them for the rest of the year. My Dixie Cups are about 8 inches apart. I'll let one overcome others to have a chance to bloom for a while then I cut it back to allow others time to flourish. This also stresses them allowing for great tuber production.
