Water Hyacinth
« on: July 08, 2010, 10:54:23 AM »
My hyacinths started blooming yesterday. YAY! Pictures to come later.

Anyway, I had a question about an observation. Some of them are in the pond and some are in my bio filter. The ones in the filter are HUGE with large really dark green leaves, the one in the pond are really small with yellowing leaves but they are the ones that are blooming.  I know someone has to know the answer to why.

This is my guess only since this happens with other plants too.  The WH in the filter are getting lots of nutrients thus the plush foliage and no need to flower yet.  The ones in the pond get less nutrients and bloom faster for the sake of survival.  Did that make sense?  Can't wait to see photos!  Love WH blooms.
