I don't know. Again, also thinking string algae. I don't remember where you are located but if it stays warm there,,,,,don't let this stuff take over. One late spring, early summer, I did that and it was a real mess to get rid of. The fish barely could swim through these little tunnels. We eventually got in the pond and left 5 gallon buckets on shore. We bent over and stretched our arms and fingers down as far as we could reach and twirled them around to break it loose by handsful. We squeezed the water out and pitched globs of it into the buckets. We then used our handy long handled handle (

) with the toilet brush on it to brush off the rocks and get in crevasses. We let it filter a few days, scrubbing off what more we could and rinsing the filter media frequently. WE then used a couple of doses of an algae preventative CAREFULLY, continuing to clean the filters. Each year since, we've had a little bit but if I think it's getting out of hand, (ducking) I again carefully use the Algaefix.
