Hi Sue!  We are in the middle of 'full-blown' harvest season here.  DH had to stop combining beans after a day of rain and switch the head to corn.  All you see around here is combines, grain trucks, and pick-ups pulling gravity carts!

The weather has been beautiful and has cooled off thankfully, and we could be looking at our first frost this weekend.  I have removed all the tomatoes from the garden, dug around for stray onions, and picked hot peppers.  I should get out there and clean the vines, but I'm just not feeling it.   :)  Will have to fix supper for hubby before long (just sandwiches, chips, cookies and iced tea) he takes with him for the evening meal.  He doesn't stop in the evening, but keeps combining until all the wagons, carts and combine are full.  Then first thing in the morning, it's off to the grain elevator to empty everything and back to combining after lunch.

It HAS been quiet here, probably because the season is winding down.    :-\

"We" usually get a lull at this time of year.  In spring we all get enthusiasic again.
For me it's when the seed catalogs start arriving.  My eyes get very big.

LuAnn, I'm very familiar with harvest season.  Hubby not only farmed for the first 35 years of our marriage, but he worked at the grain elevator for 10 years and farmed.

Jerry it has gotten very quiet...even more so than the dead of winter.

What does your hubby do now Sue?  Has he retired?  How does he stay busy?  I don't think DH plans to retire.  He has many other interests, but I think he will farm until he just can't anymore......

:(  LuAnn, he farmer until he couldn't anymore.  Not enough land to afford new machinery and the old was totally worn out.  So he gave up the lease on the land and sold off all the machinery that he could.

Now he gardens and still mows at the farm for the new renter.  He helps friends out when needed and spends time on the computer and reading.  We manage to stay as busy as we want to be with the kids and grandkids.

Yep........I noticed too, it sure has been quiet around here.

It's time to get in my pond and cut back the lilies before the water gets cold!  The leaves are falling and I need to clear a path to the skimmers.  We are in a drought and the leaves are falling before they turn color.  That makes me sad because fall and all the wonderful colors are my favorite time of the year.   :'(

I've been busy with other things.  We power washed the deck, porch and sidewalks yesterday.  I bought stain for the deck and paint for the porch railings.  I love to paint in the fall when its cool.  Also our area Covered Bridge Festival begins next week.  Lots of festival food, crafts, yard sales, etc., covering several area towns.  It lasts ten days and I will be there most of them!!!

Karen, I think many of us are in the same boat.
We need a few controversial posts.

I have been here!  I feel very lazy this year and have no desire to do anything unless it is necessary.   {:-P;;

I watch the fishies and feed them but the lilies have been less than mediocre because it was such a cool and overcast summer.  Now it's hotter than Vegas and I don't like working in the heat if I don't have to.  The weeds have taken over the garden and all I can do is hope I have the drive soon to attack them.  The weather today is humid and hot, thanks to the monsoonal moisture from Mexico.

I have all my seeds for Fall planting but the summer garden is still out there all dried up.  Pray I get that drive to get moving.

Good thing is I had a great summer, since it was cool I got to go places we normally wouldn't visit with all the heat.  I can't believe that it is already October.  Christmas is just around the corner.  Let's not forget Thanksgiving ans Halloween!

NOT nasty name-calling controversy.  Heck we have had that and got rid of it.

Well... I am **STILL** in the middle of a pond rebuild, put in the bottom drain and for some unknown reason did not use silicone (where was my head? must have been from the sun of digging down deeper and filling in this part and.... you get the picture) so today I was able to go in and finish that part. Instead of cutting the drain hole this time, I put a patch over the bottom drain (in between the top ring and over the liner now firmly sealed on the bottom drain...) I didn't wanna mess anymore with it... Fishies will be going through winter without pumps anyway so why put in a hole and risk not filling up the pond.. lol Pond just finished filling, roughly

So now, I just have to put everything back.. Fish back in the pond, lillies back, other plants and of course, a few ton of rock. :(  Needless to say, with RL going on, this just has not been the most fun. I can't wait until next spring when I can sit back and enjoy...
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
