Question about Laguna PT 346 Flo Max 2000 pump
« on: April 11, 2011, 08:54:25 AM »
My second Cal Pump PW2500 bit the dust yesterday after running only 2 seasons (about 12 months total run time). My first one went out under warranty, so Cal Pump sent me the second one.

I have decided not to purchase another Cal Pump and am wondering if anyone is using the Laguna PT 346 Flo Max 2000 pump and, if so, how do you like it?   I would appreciate any pros  & cons.

Thank for your help.

Never liked totally encased pumps. They invariably clog.
For about the same price, you can get a true solids-handling pump; The Savio WMS2050 (2050 gph), 18 month warranty).

Totally encased isn't all bad (IMHO).  The parameters are set meaning the manufacturer doesn't claim it will pass solids beyond the size of the openings.

Laguna's Max-Flo is a magnetic drive pump & actually has a solids handling impeller inside ... which is replaceable as well.  At 100W it's very energy efficient & also has a 3yr warranty.

I ended up buying the Laguna Flo Max 2000 pump.  I was able to use it in it's cage on it's side in my Savio skimmer.  So far, it is working like a charm.  My pond water is looking good.
Thanks for the comments.
