Year of the Rabbit!
« on: February 11, 2011, 10:22:04 AM »
Wishing my Friends a Happy New Year.  In the Lunar Calendar it is the Year of the Rabbit.  Our family spent last week in Vegas to celebrate with all the beautiful decorations for the New Year at many of the Casino Hotels.

Our favorite displays are always at the Bellagio Hotel's Atrium where many flowers are used in the decor and copies of authentic treasures from China for the New Year Celebrations.

The huge almost 8 ft Rabbit made of grasses and other plants is surrounded eight baby bunnies frolicking amongst the beds of flowers.

Lots of colorful photos to share!

I really wanted to have carrots in my vege garden but now that you mention it....I really don't want to attract wascally wabbits!   :o  Good thing I got lazy!

In the Koi and Lily Pond is a Chinese Junk replica surrounded with scenery from various ancient cities.  I don't show it here but I noticed the pots of lilies are standing on tables to keep the pot about 6 inches or so from the surface of the water.  The pond itself is, my guess, probably about 24 to 30" deep.  And the lilies were flowering!  Ideas galore....

How cold was it in Vegas?  Well during the day it was warm enough to just wear a coat but the early mornings it was bbbrrrrrrrr cold.  We've seen ice in the hotel fountains before but it has been a while since we've seen it this time of the year when we visit Vegas.  There are icicles hanging under the fountain and on the water of the bowl below in the main entrance of the Bellagio Hotel!

The sun was warm and there were no winds(like the crazy winds near Devore!) which made the visit very comfortable.

These are exotic creations made of sugar in small cubicle windows on a wall outside of a pizza shop (go figure) in the Wynn Hotel Espalande that are so amazing.

Finally, the display at the Wynn Hotel lobby.

Plus there is the Canoe and Boats sculpture at the center of the hotels Vdara and Aria in the City Center.  The artist recycled old canoes and boats for this piece of work in a "green" sustainable hotel development.

We enjoyed, ate a whole lot, toured beautiful garden displays, ate way too much, window shopped, ate more, gambled free money, ate again, and made money on free credit!  Oh did I mention we enjoyed all the food we ate?

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year to you too Annette!!!!  I love looking at the pictures of your getaways!  Love the Chihuly too:  it resembles the one at the conservatory, the color of it was a purple stuck in amongst the plants.

Very interesting sculptures, plants, and statues.  I love the chinese junk and the warriors.  Thanks for sharing!

Thank you LuAnn!  I stuck the Chihuly in for you.  There are many Chihuly displays all over Vegas plus a few galleries all devoted to him.  Here another one for you from the Bellagio Lobby ceiling.

Oh my GOSH, the COLOR!!  I love his work!  I wish I had taken pics of a couple of skylights he did that were stuck in the rock:  they were similar to the one you just showed--the colors are amazing!

I'm late here to wish everyone a happy Chinese New Year!  I have a friend who just had her first baby last Satruday.  My very first rabbit baby!! o(:-) ;D @O@  I get to see her after work today.

I miss good New Year food.  I always took it for granted when I got to eat it every New Year.  Now that I'm here in the States, I "tried" to cook some traditional dishes, they just didn't taste the same.   :(

Annette - Loveeeeee all the pictures.

Happy New Year, Kuan!

Well, I am very fortunate to have my mom do lots of the Chinese New Year cooking and she has taught me how to make many of the special dishes to commemorate the fortunes, health, longevity, and prosperity (I'm sure I left something out).  Plus with our trips back to Hong Kong I learn a lot from restaurant chefs.  But this is the first year in many that I did not cook for a week in preparation of the special day.  I made up for it, and probably the rest of the year, in Vegas though...AIYA! :D

Great pictures Annette.  I think these may be the first truly interesting pictures I can recall seeing of Las Vegas.  There is obviously much more to the city than I had been led to believe.  If I ever manage to get down that way I'll have to serioulsy consider a detour to see the sights.  Thanks for posting all these!

Annette: What are those things in the photo above?   I recognize the berries but what are they sitting on?  And what is in the glasses?

Thanks Emm!  We go to Vegas for the sights, sounds and food.  We don't gamble or play slots unless the hotels give us some credit to play.  Not a penny from our pockets  :D  Just a cool get-away. Lots of architectural changes in the past few years.

Mike, in the plastic cups - mango pudding with a chocolate ball with a wisp of gold.  then there is the panna cotta egg.  Real dyed egg shell!

Annette,
I spent today at the hospital with my brother (knee surgery).  His nurse was telling that they had been to Vegas and saw such beautiful displays.  I felt pretty cool, that I had seen your pictures and knew all about it.  ;)

I love the architecture in Las Vegas!  The atrium in the Bellagio is one of my favorites - the Bellagio is by far my favorite hotel.

Happy New Year! I'm having a rabbit baby!
