It's all beautiful but I really like the leucospermum. Did you start that one from seed or was it an established plant? I have leucospermum seeds in the fridge I was going to give another try this year and I ordered more Protea cynaroides seed, both spring and summer flowering varieties.

Cheers,
Sean

Thanks everyone.  It was a potted plant Sean that I purchased from Roger's Gardens.  I have a terrible time growing proteas and leucospermum.  This one seems to be doing well in this location in its third year.  The key is keeping phosphates away from it......  I had a leucosperumum growing near a cinder block wall out back and it was doing quite well and then we had some horrible heat last summer and I think the radiating heat from the wall must have cooked it.  Very frustrating to loose an established plant.

I believe you gave me an agave but now I can't remember where I planted it.  I'm thinking you gave me a smaller variety though.  I guess I will have to go on an agave hunt.....  I should have planted the entire parkway with blue agave in order to make Tequila as shown in this photo from a Tequila producer near Puerto Vallarta.

Very beautiful colors in your garden!  I can't believe you already have what looks like a sunflower in bloom already.  With all this rain we have been getting and the colder temps the snails are not moving much in garden unless they finish devouring the plant they live in.  And for the first time this year birds are eating my oranges!  If I ever catch one.....

I could use a bit of tequila soon!

I'll second that Sue!   :D

Mike, is it true that the older the clivia plant the more flowering stalks it will have each year?

I didn't know which plant you were talking about - the clivia - so I Googled it. Thanks! I have that same plant in my yard and didn't know the name of it.  Annette- I don't know if that's true for all the plants but it's definitely been true for mine.  The first year they were planted I didn't get any blooms, but they have definitely increased dramatically since then.  I noticed today there are a lot of buds on them.  Can't wait until they open - they are one of my favorites - now if it would quit raining so I could go outside and enjoy them!

Annette: Yes, as they mature they continually produce more flowering stalks.  Many of my clivias were grown from seed.  When grown from seed they take about 4 years before they flower and need about a dozen leaves before they will flower.  As they mature they are constantly sending up off-shoots and each of those off-shoots need to mature before flowering.

Thanks Holldoll and Mike, that's good to know.  I got my 4 clivia plant cuttings from my mother's yard about 3 years ago.  They were up to 4 blooming stalks until I split them again last year.  This year I only got 2 or three blooming stalks on all of them.
