To preserve cutted water lily flowers
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:57:14 AM »
Is there any way? Any body knows?

It makes me sad to say good bye to each of the beauties after 3-4 days of blooming.

For terrestrial plants there are several ways as you know. But what abt our aquatics? Would be happy to keep them, in a way, did Googled but could not find a way.

Would appreciate to hear your ideas. (Why the melted glass has to be hot:))

I've not tried any water lilies as cut flowers before, but I seem to recall reading a post that said that they last several days as cut flowers in a vase than the 3-4 days outside natural.  Maybe someone else has tried and will post?
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

Would like to find a way to preserve "for ever". Had seen some dried flowers covered with what we call here "plexi glass" but the flowers they used did kept their formation after being dried, before the process but w.liles loose their formats during drying and looks ugly and  rotten.

You could try using silica gel. It works well for many large land flowers. I have some and I will try it with my water lilies and let you know if it works.

We are going away this weekend. I will try the gel next week. It takes several days. I will let you know if it works.
