spawning?
« on: July 03, 2011, 02:05:50 PM »
It's 100 degrees outside today and my fish decided to spawn for the third time this year. Does that make sense?

July 1 was the new moon.

There is still a lot lets say suspect rather then wrong information on the web.   Last week I read where goldfish only spawn once a year !

Mine have been at it at least 5 days that I've seen this year, but sadly not a single baby has resulted that we can see.

Are you sure they were spawning, and not some other activity?

Perhaps some did not spawn the first two go-rounds, and so now entirely new fish are spawning a little late.

Not sure whats going on. I did not see them in action. I known my 23 inch Chagoi got slender about a month ago along with my 19 inch assagi. Seemed all my big girls dropped eggs all at once and the pond seemed almost unsanitary.  I added about an inch and a half of cold water 2 days ago to refill due to hot weather evaporation. Next day it was all spermy again.

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

My goldies and fancies are having way too too much fun in their pond every few days with a week break now and then...lots of roe and sashimi action too  :o  I see lots of babies, all sizes, in my plant saving colanders.
