Paint Outside (and/or inside) Galvanized Stock Tank
« on: October 05, 2011, 03:10:33 PM »
Ok ya'll, what type of paint and/or procedures do you recommend to paint the outside (or inside?) of a galvanized steel stock tank?  I am having it totally above ground.  I don't MIND the steel look per se, but want to jazz it up, or tone it down as the case may be  8)
I have seen and have directions on how to paint a galvanized steel TRASH CAN with decorative paint, but I want to paint the whole outside of tank, and don't know the durability of the above technique for the entire tank over the long haul.
I even thought of maybe adhering plaster of something on it to make it look like rock or stucco?  Suggestions?

Planting may be worth considering.

Paint ??  A healthy pond  will create a nice thin layer of algae on the inside within weeks,  and after that, your healthy fish population will keep much of that under control picking at new growth..

As to the outside, that would depend of your need for cosmetics.......................  Painting the inside would only seem right to me if you used and old fashion type "asphalt emulsion" ( a few coats) and a 2 week cure time ( like they use with concrete drinking water cisterns) .. A cheap and decades old proven coating.

Water health:  More shade will help you maintain clearer water with less mechanical filtration / Edison. .. More turbulence will allow more fish per gallon of water.  Plants of any type are generally good.  Less food =  less issues overall with water quality.

As to all the rest, only your effort and passion with tell the story as the years pass..

Enjoy.

Tony
